‘Severs Disease’ – Manifestations & Management

Calcaneal apophysitis (Sever’s Disease) is a common cause of heel pain in growing children. It’s true incidence and etiology unknown but, recent evidence supports overuse injury as an underlying etiology. It can present either unilateral or bilateral active children adolescents who had history new-onset sports activity. Diagnosis mainly relies on thorough clinical examination with positive squeeze test being confirmatory. Radiologic imaging may be unnecessary but help rule out avoid missing other problematic conditions. Treatment options are conservative include rest, medications, therapy, orthosis. Educating parents coaches pivotal for the prevention these self-limiting conditions young athletes. Evidence suggests return to most few weeks months after appropriate care.
